A big disadvantage when it comes to smartwatches is that they are more dependent on smartphone for functioning. Not many developers have succeeded in making a true independent smartwatch that can function as a smart phone.
Neptune Pine claims to be the ‘first standalone smartwatch’ that comes to the market. Though the device seems a bit lengthy for the wrist, it can function like a complete android smartphone. Users can make and receive calls, browse web, play games, and all android apps runs on this device.
The display is 2.4 inches wide touch with 320 x 240 pixels resolution, which as I said earlier seems it a bit larger for the wrist. However, this much width is actually required if one has to perform tasks easily, like in a smartphone. Beneath the display runs 1.2GHz snapdragon S4 pro dual core processor along with 512 MB RAM. Storage can either be 16 GB or 32 GB, choice is yours. Android 4.1.2 is the OS used. There are two cameras as well in this device. The rear camera can capture 5.0 MP images while the front camera is VGA.
Another amazing part of this smartwatch is its battery performance. According to company, the Pine offers 120 hours stand by, 8 hours talk time on 2G and up to 7 hours of browsing time on WiFi. Web browsing on 3G networks is not known. It can run all the android apps. However one draw back is that it does not have Google Play installed in it. The Neptune team is trying to get Google Play into this smart watch.
Neptune Pine is priced at $229CAD which is approximately 14,000 Indian Rupees. The company expects to start shipping by January 2014. Additional $15 is required for International shipping. So if you wish to have one of this gadget you can order it now from kickstarter. Neptune have already crossed the fund raising goal of $100,000 CAD, and have already collected $272,306 CAD with 28 days left.
