Samsung announced Galaxy Grand 2 today. The device comes with a slightly wider display than the previous version. Grand 2 offers a 5.25 inches 720p display which is a welcome improvement from the earlier version that had a 5 inches 800 x 480 WVGA screen.
Galaxy Grand 2 comes with a 1.2 GHz quad core processor. Earlier version had a dual core processor. The make of the processor is yet to be known as there is no mention on the make. There is 1.5 GB RAM. The base model comes with 8 GB RAM, and can be increased up to 64 GB using a microSD card.
There is an 8 MP rear camera with flash and also a 1.9 MP front camera. The device comes with Android 4.3 out of the box. Proximity, Accelerometer, Compass, Light and Hall Sensor can be found on the device. Though the phone is of the size of Galaxy note, it lacks the stylus pen found in the note.
Samsung also have considered to increase the battery capacity. The original Galaxy grand had a 2,100 mAH battery, which is fairly low for a 5 inch device. But then the Grand had a WVGA screen that required less energy to power the display. The Grand 2 having a 1280×720 pixels resolution obviously requires a larger battery. The new Galaxy Grand 2 comes with a 2,600 mAH battery .
It is a dual SIM phone, so device will soon come to India along with other international markets. However, it lacks 4G LTE. Connectivity option of the phone includes WiFi a/b/g/n, BT4.0, GPS ＋ Glonass and USB 2.0. It supports HSPA networks. Group Play, S Travel, ChatON, Samsung Hub, S Translator, Samsung Link, S Health and Story Album are the other features found on the phone.
