Gionee has launched a new android smartphone in China. The new device Gionee S5.5 that measures 5.5mm thick, now becomes the World’s thinnest smartphone overtaking the existing Vivo X3 that measures 5.75 mm.
Gionee S5.5 comes in 3G and 4G LTE models. The 3G model is already up for pre-order in China, while the 4G version will be available in June.
The S5.5 nomenclature in this phone denotes the thickness of the device. In normal naming process the name is accompanied by the screen size. Here in this device, S5.5 seems to be the abbreviation of Slim 5.5.
The phone is absolutely slim, and Gionee officials claims that they have not compromised on the battery of this device. According to officials the phone can deliver a day of talk time with its 2300 mAH battery. This is the department where the slim phones limp.
Other features of the phone are quite impressive too. The phone has a 5 inch display with unknown resolution. It is powered by a 1.7 GHz quad core processor along with 2 GB of RAM. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Gionee Amigo UI runs on the device. The phone has all regular connectivity options.
The primary rear camera has a 13 MP sensor while there is a 5 MP sensor in the front camera. The 3G version of the device is priced at around $370 in China. Gionee says that the device will be launched in 40 countries soon. So we hope to see the device in India soon as they have expressed their interest in Indian mobile market during the Gionee E7 launch.
