The much awaited and most rumored smartphone in recent times, the LG G Pro 2 goes official today. The biggie from the Korean giant was expected to make its debut at MWC later this month. But it seems like that the phone was not ready to wait for the MWC bang, and gets unveiled to wow the consumers, ahead of its rivals.
The phone is a follow-up of their last year’s G Pro, with much increased screen size and improved innards. With G Pro 2, LG is targeting to take on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and other high end phablets in the market. It has a 5.9-inch screen, but thanks to its special design which makes it extremely handy. The phone features an ultra thin 3.3mm slim bezel and 77.2% screen-to-body ration, which makes the 5.9-inch display more manageable. LG also included a new software feature called Mini View, that allows the users to shrink the display to any size between 3.4-inches to 4.7-inches.
Like in the LG G2, the phablet features, power and volume buttons on the back side, just below the camera. The design is also greatly inspired by the LG G2.
As we noted earlier, the phone packs a number of new software tweaks. The Knock On feature that was already available with previous LG devices gets an evolution in the for of Knock Code. Content Lock (to safe guard videos, images, memos, files using password), Mini View, Dual Browser (to view two browser windows alongside on the screen) are the other notable software features included in the device.
“Knock code is an example of LG bringing simple, more convenient solutions to consumers’ mobile lives. Where in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phone, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features. We think customers will agree,” noted D. Jong-Seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications. The design is also greatly inspired by LG G2.
Coming to the hardware features of the device, apart from the big display, the phone features a 2.26 GHZ quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor backed up with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The internal storage may be either 16GB or 32GB as per your choice. It also offers microSD card support for storage expansion.
Now the camera is another great feature included in the device. The G Pro 2 sports a 13 MP rear camera that is capable of recording 4K videos. It is coming with OIS+, and features 120fps slow-motion video, natural flash, burst mode and also a flash for selfies that turns most of the screen white for more “soft” lighting.
LG G Pro 2 packs a massive 3200 mAh battery and will be shipping with ANdroid 4.4 KitKat on the board. LG is offering the device in three different color versions, Silver, Black and White.
No word on the pricing and availability of the device. But we may expect that LG will launch the device in the near future.
