HP Slate 7 VoiceTab now available, Quick Review, Comparison

HP had launched VoiceTab android devices last month. The smaller device Slate 6 VoiceTab was made available at the time of launch and the bigger one the Slate 7 VoiceTab was slated for a later date release.  Now HP has made Slate 7 VoiceTab available for purchase for Rs. 16,999.

HP slate 7 VoiceTab

The specifications of this tablet is not much different from its earlier released 6 inch device. The only obvious differences we found are in the display sizes, battery size and flash availability. The Slate 7 VoiceTab has got bigger display, so a bigger battery. Another difference is that it does not have a flash for the rear camera.

Let’s now take a look at the specifications and features of this Android Tablet.

HP Slate 7 VoiceTab has got a 7 inch wide display that offers 1280 x 800 pixels resoltion. The display offers 16 M colors and approximately 216 ppi pixel density. The display is an IPS capacitive touch display, so you get better viewing angles. The smaller version of this tablet, the Slate 6 Voice Tab has got similar resolution. The display is fairly good but could have been better for a 17K device. In India tablets priced around 12 K -13K offers HD resolutions.

CPU and Memory

Slate 7 Tab is powered by a Marvell PXA1088 1.2Ghz Quad Core processor paired with a 1 GB DDR2 1333 Mhz RAM. The tablet has got 16 GB of internal storage memory expandable up to 32 GB using a micro SD card. The presence of MicroSD slot is a welcome advantage. Besides these, HP also offers 25 GB of cloud storage, so that counts to an impressive 73 GB memory altogether.

Operating System

HP Slate VoiceTab runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. Whether this will be upgraded to the Android Kitkat is not known. At this point of time and price point we believe that the HP could have included Android Kitkat OS in this tablet.

Camera and sensors

The rear camera in this device is an auto focus shooter with a 5 MP sensor. The front camera has a 2 MP sensor. Rear camera ha Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama features. What hurts is the lack of LED flash. But most tablets comes without a flash, so it is acceptable. Accelerometer, gyro, proximity sensors and compass can be found on this device.

Network and connectivity

The tablet has all regular connectivity features like WiFi, Bluetooth V 3.0, micro USB v 2.0. It is interesting that the Bluetooth version in this device is 3.0 and not 4.0. On the network front the device supports 2G and 3G bands with operating frequencies of GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 and HSDPA.  The device supports dual SIM which is an advantage, because you don’t have to rely on WiFi for wireless connectivity.

HP Slate 7 VoiceTab has got a larger battery than Slate 6 VoiceTab. The battery in this device is  4,100 mAH battery, which should be enough to last for a day of normal use.

Price and Conclusion

This is not a tablet with extra ordinary specifications. But device has specifications that are good enough for gaming because it has got a quad  core processor and 1 GB of RAM. Most games with extreme graphics runs smooth on this device. Playing games tests the real capability of a mobile device. This device will not fail you in this aspect. The price of Rs. 17,000 seems competent unlike the smaller version of this tab which is priced around Rs. 23,000. The dual SIM, dual standby support and availability of 3G and 2G network support makes it an ideal pick for a Voice calling tablet. However we thing the prices could have been around 15,000.
