Motorola Moto X is coming to India. The popular online retailer in the country, Flipkart, has announced that the device will be arriving shortly on their website. The device which was launched in August last year took almost 7 months to reach India.
The happy news, however is that the device will be available for buyers from March 19. Flipkart has announced launch day offers like they did for the Moto G launch.
Motorola seems to have struck an exclusive deal with Flipkart for the the launch of Moto devices. Moto G though rumored to be available from snapdeal is still to make an appearance there. So for time being the Moto X and Moto G devices are exclusively available from Flipkart.
Further tweets on the the official tweeter handle of the site says that the device will be offered in five fixed set of colors and two wood back variants.
Now let’s take a look at the specifications of Moto X and try a brief comparison with Nexus 5 which also has a Google association.
Moto X comes with 4.7 inch wide AMOLED capacitive touch display that offers 720 p HD resolution. It comes with Corning Gorilla Glass that protects the screen from scratches. Nexus 5 on the other hand comes with a full HD display with a slightly larger display. 720 p resolution for a 4.7 inch device is fairly good as it offers a 312 ppi pixel density.
CPU and Memory
Qualcomm MSM8960Pro Snapdragon chipset with 1.7 GHz dual core Krait CPU and quad-core Adreno 320 GPU powers the device. There is 2 GB of RAM in this device. The phone comes in 16 GB and 32 GB internal memory options. There is no memory slot, so further expansion is not practical. But Google offers 50 GB storage free for 2 years on Google Drive.
The phone should perform well even though it is powered by a dual core processor. Most phones that launches these days offers at least quad core processors that goes up to octa cores on some recent and upcoming phones. But this phone has got 2 GB of RAM which surely helps the performance.
Nexus 5 is far better in this area as it is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon processor with 2 GB of RAM. Interal memory options are same in both phones. Both phones comes with 16 GB and 32 GB memory options.
Moto X comes with all regular connectivity features that are available on Android phones. The phone also comes with LTE connectivity options which is good as we are slowly moving to the 4G. Besides 2G, 3G, and 4G network band connectivity we can find WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, EDGE, GPRS and USB 2.0.
Nexus 5 also has similar connectivity option. Not much of a difference there.
Android OS version
Moto X comes with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS which can readily be updated to 4.4 Kitkat. So there is really no issue there as you get the recent OS version of Android on your phone, an advantage of Google associated Android phones.
Camera and Sensors
The primary camera in Moto X has 10 MP sensor. A 10 MP sensor in a phone is some thing we do not see quite often. Normally after 8 MP sensors phones offer 12 or 13 MP sensors. The primary camera can record full HD videos @ 30 fps. Other features of the camera includes Quick Capture, LED flash, 1080p HD video (30 fps), 4X digital zoom, Slow motion video, Burst mode, Auto HDR, Panorama, Tap to focus, 1.4 µm pixel size, geo-tagging. Besides the primary camera there is a 2 MP 1080p front camera.
Pixel wise the Moto X camera is a winner against the Nexus 5. Nexus 5 has got 8 MP and 1.3 MP cameras with features that are almost identical to that of Moto X camera.
The 2200 mAH battery of the phone offers much juice to keep the phone on stand by for up to 300 hours over a 3G network. It offers a 13 hours of talk time on 3G.
Price and Conclusion
Lot depends on the price of a phone when we do the review and comparison of phones. We cannot expected high end specifications on cheaper phone. We compared the specifications of Moto X and Nexus 5 here as they have association with Google in the manufacturing and marketing. Nexus 5 in comparison is far better in terms on performance as it comes with a more powerful CPU and GPU than Moto X. But Moto X for a normal user is great device as it has all that requires for a good phone. The price of Moto X in India is not declared while we publish this quick review. We expect price to be around Rs. 25000 for 16 GB device. Price of nexus 5 16 GB phone in India is around Rs. 29000.
