HTC has officially announced the compact version of their flagship One M8, HTC One Mini 2. Though the company introduced it as a successor of their last year’s One Mini, we must have to say that the phone combines all the goodness of HTC’s last year’s HTC One, One Mini and the latest flagship One M8.
The One Mini 2 looks and feels very much like HTC One M8. But HTC has slashed many of its features to make it compact and affordable. The phone features the same premium aluminium back, but it seems like that the sides of the display is finished with plastic. Other notable difference is in it’s camera. HTC is taking a clear departure from the Ultra Pixel camera of One M8, and the latest One series device sport a regular 13 MP camera, in the place of the unique Duo Camera in its premium sibling.
Now coming to the features, HTC One Mini 2 sports a 4.5-inch 720p display with 325ppi pixel density. It is clearly in the ‘comfort zone’ for those who never prefer a larger display, but still looking for a premium look and feel. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex A7 CPU. It has 1GB of RAM and Adreno 305 graphics. The phone offers 16GB of storage that can be enhanced up to 128GB with microSD card support.
As we noted earlier, the phone sports a 13 MP camera with BSI sensor and f/2.2 lens. It has a 5MP front camera. Both the cameras can record 1080p videos. The phone has almost all the connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE. 3G, GPS and also NFC. It packs a 2100 mAh battery that longs up to 16 hours of talk time in 3G mode. The phone delivers excellent sound experience with the BoomSound dual front speakers.
HTC One Mini 2 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat topped with HTC’s Sense 6.0 UI, like the One M8.
“The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distils the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim, into an elegant, compact handset. Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of HTC One(M8) yet want something more compact,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation commented on the launch of the device.
HTC One Mini 2 is expected to go on sale in EMEA(Europe, the Middle East and in Africa) region along with North Asia in the beginning of June 2014. Like the One (M8), HTC One Mini 2 is also coming in Amber Gold, Glacial Silver and Gunmeral Gray colors. But there is no word on the pricing yet, may be HTC will declare the price details during the local launch event. The price of the device in India is expected to be around Rs. 20,000.
The hardware specifications of the device matches that of Moto G. HTC have not included a very powerful processor in this device. In comparison what will differentiate the One mini 2 from Moto G is its premium metal body and higher resolution cameras. For a comparison overview I have listed the specifications of both the devices in a chart below.
