Karbonn Titanium Hexa is the latest Android smarphone offering by the company. Interestingly, this device comes truly power packed. It is first Indian handset that comes with MediaTek’s new hexa-core chipset. Titanium Hexa is now available in the country from Amazon online stores. Karbonn seems to have struck exclusive deal with Amazon for the sale of the device. In return the device will have Amazon shopping app pre-installed. The price of Karbonn Titanium is Rs. 16,990. This is a dual SIM phone, comes with a 5.5 inch 1920 x 1080 pixels Full HD display.
Let’s now look into the features and specifications of this device in depth.
The shape of the phone resembles the Galaxy devices with curved edges. The side bezels are kept minimum so that the extra large display does not add to the over all size of the phone. This phone is extremely thin and measures just 6.9 mm in thickness. The back of the phone resembles the Lenovo K900, with the dual shade metalic premium finish. The speakers are on the bottom left. The camera is placed on the top left along with an LED flash. The power button and volume rockers are on the left side, and the right side is kept free of any buttons. The micro USB port finds its position on the bottom, while the audio jack like in most phone is on the top of the phone.
Over all dimensions of the Titanium hexa ranges between 154 x 77 x 6.9 mm. It weighs 145 g with battery. This is a very sleek and light phone for the size it carries.
Titanium hexa comes with a 5.5 inch display that offers 1920 x 1080p resolution. Karbonn has used a new LTPS technology display in this phone. The specialty is that it replaces amorphous silicon with Low Temperature Poly Silicon. The display is protected by scratch resistant glass with oleophobic coating to prevent finger prints. There is no mention of Gorilla glass in the specification, so it may be a dragon trail or similar scratch resistant glass. The viewing angles in the phone is good. It offers better color reproduction than any other Karbonn titanium phones. The pixel density of the display is 401 ppi.
CPU, GPU, Internal storage and OS
Karbonn Titanium Hexa is powered by a Hexa core CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz along with 2 GB of RAM. The chipset is MediaTek MT6591. It is the first time we this chipset on an Indian phone or rather any other phone for that matter. This chipset is one of the latest from MediaTek, and is just getting to the devices. Karbonn vouches on the speed of this processor, besides there is 2 GB of RAM that helps in multi tasking with the apps. Mali 450 MP4 is the GPU. There is 16 GB of internal storage in the phone, which can be expanded further using a micro SD card. The phone supports microSD cards up to 32 GB.
Another highlight of this phone is the availability of the latest Android Version 4.4.2 Kitkat. The domestic manufacturers including Micromax is still struggling to get the latest OS version on their phones (both new and old). Karbonn Titanium Hexa is the first phone from an Indian domestic manufacturer to offer Kitkat OS out of the box.
Camera and sensors
The primary rear camera in the device comes with a 13 MP sensor, while the front camera features a 5 MP sensor. There is no mention about the sensors used in the camera. So it may not be the Sony or similar quality sensors. The camera features includes Geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, panorama modes, auto focus and LED flash. The sensors in the phone includes Accelerometer and proximity sensor.
Connectivity and Battery
The phone comes with all the regular connectivity options. Network bands that are supported includes GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and HSDPA. WiFi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi hotspot microUSB v2.0 with USB On-the-go, Bluetooth version 4.0, and GPS with A-GPS support are the other connectivity options available.
The battery is of 2050 mAh capacity, which could prove insufficient for this phone. The company could have opted for a larger battery because there will be power drainage when we used fullHD display and a 6 core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz.
Price and conclusion
Overall this phone is very impressive. What goes in favor of the phone includes
- hexacore processor with 2 GB RAM, 16 GB in-built storage
- Full HD display
- beautiful design, 6.9 mm slim profile
- OTG support
- Android 4.4.2 Kitkat OS
- Cheap pricing
What goes against would be (though there is not much to suggest)
- 2050 mAh battery
Price is most attractive factor in this phone. For the features and specifications the phone provides, it is a best buy at Rs. 16,990.
Karbonn Titanium being the first hexa core processor phone there is no identical phones in comparison.
