Micromax goes colorful once again. The Indian smartphone maker has just announced the launch of their new Android smartphone dubbed as Micromax Unite 2. Interestingly, the Unite 2 is the first ever smartphone from Micromax to feature Android 4.4 Kitkat on-board. With the launch of Moto G and Moto E, Motorola set a new trend in budget smartphones, and with Unite 2 Micromax has directly challenged Motorola.
At a glance, Micromax Unite 2 looks a very good pick for those who are looking for a low cost, feature rich smartphone. Let’s do a quick review of this device.
Design and Display.
The Micromax Unite 2 follows almost similar design strategy like most of the Micromax devices. For the given price range, the phone looks very attractive. Micromax is offering the device in a range of attractive colors including Grey, Red, White and Green. It sports a 4.7-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. The phone features Bright Graph IPS LCD panel to deliver superior color contrast and brightness along with an exceptional viewing angle.
Chipset, CPU, GPU and Memory
The Micromax Unite 2 is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor of unknown make. We assume that it is MediaTek’s quad-core MT6582 processor, though we don’t have confirmed details on the processor. But the presence of a quad-core processors will definitely aid the performance, particularly when compared to the dual-core powered ones in the same price range. The phone has 1 GB of RAM, which will take care of multi tasking very well.
The Micromax Unite 2 has a 4GB built-in memory that can be expanded further with microSD card support, up to 32GB. Though the 4GB of storage is not up to the mark, it is acceptable with the given price range. With the quad-core processor and 1 GB of RAM, the phone will deliver smooth performance. The processor and memory shows hundred percent sincerity to the price tag.
The Micromax Unite 2 is coming with a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash. Though it won’t deliver any great shots, Micromax throws some interesting features to the camera to enhance your snaps. The phone features Beauty mode, Panorama and live photo mode improve your shots. The phone has 2 MP front camera too.
OS and Connectivity
The most exciting feature of the device is of course the latest version of the Android. The phone runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat. In fact, as we noted earlier, it is the first smartphone from Micromax to offer Android Kitkat on-board. More than that the phone has OTA update option, and the company has promised further updates in future. The phone comes pre-loaded with a range of apps including Getit, Mad, Kingsoft Office, Hike, Opera Mini browser, M!games, M!live etc.
The connectivity options of Micromax Unite 2 includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS etc. The phone supports 3G HSPA. It has a dual SIM support also.
The phone comes with Reverie Multilingual pack. Which will offer support for 20 Indian regional languages along with English. The languages include Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia, Dengali, Assamese, Marathi, Nepali, Bodo, Dogri, Kashmiri, Manipuri, Maithili, Sanskrit and Sindhi. Micromax has also added an interesting feature, MAd that let users to watch ads and earn points and to added with your phone balance in the form of money. We saw this in few of their previous phones.
The Micromax Unite 2 packs a 2000 mAh battery, slightly larger than its rivals Moto E and Lava Iris 406Q.
Micromax has set the Uniee 2 price at Rs. 6,999, the very same price at which Motorola is retailing their Moto E.
Now the phone makers are concentrating to deliver “Value for the money” smartphones and Micromax Unite 2 is apt for the title. The features like quad core processor, 1GB of RAM, Android KitKat and 2000 mAh battery, raising the phone well above the price range, though the low display resolution is a bit disappointing. In many aspects, Unite 2 does shows its aggression towards Moto E.
