Samsung had launched their 2014 flagship Galaxy S5 just a couple of months ago. But according to the latest rumors, the Korean giant is not so satisfied with their months old flagship, and they are planning an update of the device, as soon as in June itself.
Before the Galaxy S5 was launched, the phone was reported to be coming with a QHD display, and we expected a transition from their usual plastic finish. But Samsung announced the device with FHD display and a metallic Galaxy S5 was still there on the horizon.
Now their home rivals LG is all set to launch their flagship device LG G3 with QHD display. LG has scheduled an event on May 27, the phone will expected to go official on the same day with a June release. As LG G3 is getting closer to its release date, the rumours on a premium Galaxy S5 device started heating up.
The phone is supposed to be called Galaxy S5 Prime when (and if) it finally reaches the market. But we exactly don’t know whether Samsung will stick on the ‘prime’ itself. As the project is internally called as Project K, and as we know Samsung introduced the successor of Galaxy S4 Zoom as Galaxy K Zoom. So there are some chance that Samsung will follow the same naming strategy for the upcoming device also.
The latest reports says that Samsung is planning for a June announcement for the device. As LG is also planning for the same time window for their G3, Samsung want to make the Galaxy S5 Prime as the direct competitor with same specifications. The phone is also reported to enter its “interoperability” testing state by this week itself. It will take approximately two months to finish, to check whether the device is ready for the market. If so, the rumoured June launch date could be true.
As we noted earlier, Samsung was planning to launch the Galaxy S5 with QHD display. But due to some production issues with the QHD AMOLED display, Samsung had to stick on with the same FHD screen. The production cost for the QHD display seems to be high, and Samsung is rumoured to be launching the device in limited quantity.
According to multiple sources, Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is expected to be coming with top notch features to dominate in the Android smartphone market. The plastic finish, the main drawback of Samsung flagships is expected to be replaced in the upcoming Prime device. Here we got a rumour round up for the specification of Galaxy S5 Prime.
- 5.2-inch 2569 x 1440 pixel display
- 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor or Samsung’s upcoming Octa-core Exynos 5430 processor
