Samsung has announced Gear S smartwatch that runs Tizen OS. Unlike the previous Gear smartwatches, this phone does not require a smartphone to make calls or stay connected. This smartwatch is equipped with a 3G chips that keeps the user connected even when it is away from WiFi or Bluetooth range.
The Samsung Gear S features a 2 inch AMOLED display. It has got a curved design that wraps around the wrist more comfortably than before. It is powered by a 1 GHz dual core CPU along with 512 MB of RAM. The smartwatch comes with 4 GB of internal storage memory. Besides 2G and 3G, the device has GPS too in it.
Heart rate and motion sensors are also present in this watch. Samsung has opted for Tizen OS in Gear S, not the Android Wear. Samsung Gear S will be launched at IFA next week along with a Gear circle headset.
Gear S can be used a fitness tracker with the use of Samsung’s S Health or Nike+ Running. It is IP67 certified water resistant and dust proof.
This is not a round smartwatch like LG G Watch R and Moto 360. The price of the watch is not yet revealed. It will go on sale from October this year. There is no news from Samsung about a round smartwatch yet. It many not be long before we see one from Samsung.
