In an interesting move Samsung has reduced the price of their Galaxy Core 2 duos to Rs. 7,990 in India. The phone was launched in July, and was selling for around Rs. 13,000. The drop is unprecedented, because we normally do not see such steep drops in prices on Mobile phones within such a short period from launch.
Currently the price of the phone is cheapest on Flipkart, closely followed by other retailers.
The drop in price can be attributed to the introduction of Android One in the country, as well as that of the arrival of phones like Redmi 1S that the changed the game for ever. The Android phone segment under Rs.10,000 is not what it was a couple of months ago. We also have better phones from Indian manufacturers like Micromax, Lava, Xolo and Karbonn in this price range.

Android One phones that costs even less have configurations better than that of Samsung Galaxy Core 2. So, it is unlikely that this phone sell at the previous price point.

The price drop incidentally follows Samsung’s move to offer exclusive selling rights to the offline retailers in the country. Samsung complains that the online retailers are those who bring down the price of the devices.
Offline retailers on the other hand alleged that they suffer because of the lack of price hygiene in the mobile segment, and they are revolting against this. Samsung has taken measures to keep things clean. Initially it will be Samsung’s Note 4 and Note Edge that will see difference in approach from the company. These two devices will not be available online.
