Samsung launched Galaxy S5 mini duos in India. The price of the device at the launch is Rs. 26,499. As the name suggests, this is the smaller version of the 2014 flagship device, Samsung Galaxy S5. However, the specifications of mini duos is entirely different from its parent phone. Not only is the size reduced, but also the device features less powerful processor, RAM and display resolution.

Samsung Galaxy S5 mini duos will be available from Flipkart online store. The device is coming to India after two months of its international outing.  It will available in charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold color variants from September 10, that is tomorrow.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini duos is different from Galaxy S5 mainly in the display size and resolution. The display in the mini duos is reduced to 4.5 inch HD (720p) from Galaxy S5’s 5.1 inch (1080p) display. RAM is reduced to 1.5 GB from 2 GB. The rear camera resolution goes down to 8 MP from 16 MP.

Key specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini duos is listed below

  • 4.5 inch HD (720p) Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen
  • 16 M colors, ~326 ppi pixel density
  • Android Kitkat 4.4.2 OS
  • 1.4 GHz quad core Cortex-A7 CPU
  • Mali-400MP4 GPU

  • 2100 mAh battery
  • Optional LTE, 2G, 3G

The device will face competition from LG G3 beat, that was launched yesterday for a similar price. Samsung Galaxy S5 did not become a very successful like its predecessor, mainly because of the lack of improvisations from the earlier models. It currently sells for around Rs. 38,000, which is substantially lower than the launch price. Analysts had expected Quad HD display and much better features in this device.

The company, however, made the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge packed with extreme specifications. These devices were launched during the ongoing IFA 2014 event. Samsung has got another premium device called Samsung Galaxy Alpha, which is being made available in markets like UK and Canada. So there is no shortage of devices in premium segment for Samsung going into 2015.
