Xolo is introducing a new series smartphones in the country. The phones coming under the series will be called Xolo Omega smartphones. Though the specifications and features of Omega series and Opus series phones overlaps, the key difference is that the Omega series comes with Xolo’s Hive UI built over the Android 4.4 Kitkat.

The first to launch in the Xolo Omega series is the Omega 5.0 smartphone that features a 5 inch IPS HD display. The display offers 1280 x 720p resolution, 16 M colors and ~294 ppi pixel density. The phone comes with a price tag of Rs. 8,999.
Xolo Omega 5.0 is powered by a 1.4 GHz octa core CPU along with Mali 450 GPU clocked @ 600 MHz. MediaTek MT6592M is the chipset used in this phone. There is 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of expandable storage memory. The phone supports microSD cards up to 32 GB.

It is a dual SIM phone supports 2G and 3G network bands. Other connectivity features includes Bluetooth v4.0, GPS with Assisted GPS, microUSB v2.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. As mentioned above the phone runs Xolo’s custom HIVE UI built over Android 4.4 Kitkat.
There is an 8 MP auto focus rear camera that comes with an an LED flash. It features an Exmor RS™Sensor and records full HD videos. The front camera comes with a 2 MP sensor and supports operator video calling. Other camera features includes Scene detection & tuning, High Dynamic Range (HDR), Low Light enhancement, Face recognition( For focusing as well as in Gallery), Red eye removal, Panorama capture, Geo tagging, Face beautification, Smile detection, Gesture detection, Voice capture, Object tracking & Live filters “V” capture.
While most of the hardware features are now standardized in Android smartphone segments, the Indian OEM’s are following the path of Xiaomi by offering the customers a unique and productive user interface. Micromax is another company that is following the suit. They are about to launch Yu series phones with customized UI which also allows the users to enhance, root the phone and play around with the UI still keeping the Warranty intact.

Xolo Omega 5.0 will find competition from the Xiaomi’s Redmi Note in terms of pricing. While Redmi Note has an edge over the display size, processor power and camera, the advantage of Xolo Omega phone will be its availability. For atleast two months buying Redmi Note will be an extremely difficult task.
