Uber, after its bumpy start in India is all set to accelerate further and make its presence felt in more parts of the country. In a recent development, Uber has signed and MOU with Tamil Nadu Government to create more opportunities for the drivers in the state and to provide better access to the transport for the public.
This move, according to Uber, will create numerous entrepreneurship opportunities in the state of Tamil Nadu. Earlier, the company had signed a similar deal with Telangana Government with an investment of $50 million in the state.
In Tamil Nadu, Uber will create jobs to 30,000 drivers. Another report also suggests that the company has proposed to invest $25 – $35 Million in the state. The company will involve themselves in training programs for drivers and infrastructure building. Uber, currently has its presence in 22 cities in the country with over 1.65 lakh drivers under its operations.
The news about the ‘landmark agreement’ was announced by Amit Jain, President of Uber India on their official blog. In Tamil Nadu the company has its presence in Chennai, where it also takes cash payment, as well as in Coimbatore. The Uber services in Coimbatore started just few weeks ago.
Uber in its first few year have already grown beyond an Android App. The company already has an enviable ground presence across the globe and is developing at an aggressive pace.
